Item Information
Title:
Union Laundry dining hall, Worcester, Massachusetts, 1909
Description:
Employees gather in the Union Laundry Dining Hall for their mid-day meal in 1909. David A. Scott, the president of the Union Laundry Company in Worcester, Massachusetts, set up the dining room where for an hour every day the employees could enjoy their food and drink. The food was provided by the employees themselves, but was cooked by another employee who was given an hour to prepare the food for her co-workers. The dining room was an example of the Union Laundry's progressive attitude towards labor. The Union Laundry Company was located at 115 Exchange Street on the corner of Union Street.
