Wire workers pose for a photograph outside of the Spencer Wire Company buildings in upper wire village in Spencer, Massachusetts. Behind the men are the company offices and one of two remaining buildings of the original factory complex. Only part of the building remains standing today. In February, 1943 the company announced that it was going to discontinue all operations in Spencer and move to West Brookfield. In the later 1940s and 1950s some of the wire mills fell victim to fire. Other wire mills were destroyed by the flood of 1955.
