Tree-lined Main Street is shown leading to the American Optical Company campus in the distance. The Universalist Church spire and the Elm Street Congregationalist Church spire are depicted here - both razed in the 1938 hurricane. The Y.M.C.A. building at the corner of Main and Elm streets has subsequently been razed also. Additionally the top floor of the Whitford building in the center of the image, was lost to a fire in the early 1970s.
