Four generations of the Beaman and Houghton families are seated left to right: Harriet (Thompson) Beaman (b. 1820-07-08), Algernon Thompson Beaman (b. 1847-01-16), Harriet Elizabeth Houghton (b. 1908-03-03) and Harriet Elizabeth (Beaman) Houghton (b. 1908-03-03) and Harriet Elizabeth (Beaman) Houghton (b. 1874-07-16). Harriet (Thompson) Beaman married Phineas Alden Beaman on 1844-04-03. Phineas (b. 1819-01-24, d. 1894-03-01) served in various town offices and one term in the Massachusetts Legislature. He purchased the entire Wachusett Mountain property in 1882. He was the proprietor of Wachusett House and the Summit House with his two sons. Harriet Elizabeth Beaman was a Princeton Upper School teacher at the turn of the 19th century. She married Herbert Parker Houghton on 1903-03-03.
