This European print imagines what the scene looked like. New Yorkers join with enslaved or freed Africans to take down the statue. People gather at the windows and on balconies to view the spectacle. The destruction of the statue by the people represented America's challenge to monarchical tyranny. Consumers viewed this print through a set of lenses to give dimension to the image.
