We are standing on the right bank of the Jordan, looking S. E. across and down the stream towards where it enters the Dead Sea. Jericho is five miles away behind us, and Jerusalem some sixteen miles distant over our right shoulder. Tradition says it was somewhere close by this bend in the river that John baptized the people and that Jesus came to enroll Himself with those who looked for the approaching Kingdom.
