Matthew Kozik (1895-1985) was born in a Polish-speaking part of Austria and moved to the United States in 1912. He owned a meat market in Greenfield and worked in factories for much of his adult life. Paul Jenkins recorded this interview with Adelaide Hood while conducting research for his book, The Conservative Rebel: A Social History of Greenfield, Massachusetts, published by the town of Greenfield in 1982. In this interview, Kozik discusses his work at Greenfield Tap & Die (GTD), the unionization of the factory, the Great Depression, World War II, and his memories of Greenfield over the years that he lived in the town. Kozik had a strong Polish accent and parts of the recording are difficult to understand.
