William Lloyd Garrison begins this letter with family news: Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison's letters were received; Franky has been sick; Fanny has a skin eruption on her face; Henry Villard is being entertained by the M'Kims; and Franky is sending Madame Carteaux's hair oil to Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison. William L. Garrison has declined the invitation to give a Fourth of July address on the White House grounds. Marianne Neill of Belfast, Ireland, is staying at Garrison's home overnight. Mrs. William Lloyd Garrison Jr. does not favor dismissing Margaret, the cook. William Lloyd Garrison writes to Helen Eliza Garrison: "I send you ten dollars for the afflicted colored woman, whose case you mention. Perhaps you had better let her have half at a time, but you must jedge. Tell her you have obtained it for her from a benevolent lady."
