William Lloyd Garrison received a note from Harriet Martineau, who died before he could reply to it. Garrison praises her literary genius, etc. He reminisces about her visit to the United States in 1835. She could have avoided taking part in the anti-slavery conflict, but instead she gave great aid to the abolitionist cause.
On the last page of this manuscript, there is a separate letter by Frances Elizabeth Willard to William Lloyd Garrison, June 5, 1876, that has been crossed out. Willard sends a circular from the International Convention of Temperance Women asking Garrison for "words of counsel and of cheer, as you deem fitting."
