<mods:note>William Lloyd Garrison tells of the letters he sent and received. He mentions Mrs. Oliver Johnson's sudden illness and the death of someone named Tid. He inquires about the Miss Andrew's departure, the employment of Miss Houghton, and the use of the galvanic battery as a medical treatment. He describes the huge crowds at the Paris Exposition. Garrison says: "We have given Harry Dr. Dow's prescription for his neuralgia ...His neuralgic attacks are usually, I think, after long and laborious mental effort in writing long and elaborate letters for the Chicago Tribune very few of which, however, seem to get published. He sends letters twice a week, and works with great diligence and fidelity." William Lloyd Garrison will not return home until November 1. George Thompson has been sick.</mods:note>
