<mods:note>Richard Davis Webb writes: "Enclosed you have all the passages referring to Douglass, in the way of warning or comment on his character, that I have been able to find in your letters." He has arranged Maria Weston Chapman's letters in order. Soon after meeting him, Richard D. Webb formed the opinion that Frederick Douglass was "a self seeker and grossly ungrateful." Webb discusses the possibility that he may have read to Douglass part of a letter from Maria W. Chapman. Webb's efforts to help D. were resented angrily. Webb has read the letters written to the Estlins and they have read his mail from the United States abolitionists. He likes Parker Pillsbury. S. May thought Pillsbury should travel on the continent, while Garrison and Wright wanted him to lecture in England. A good many women and girls believe the "whole idea of the cause is concentrated on Douglass." Webb thinks that Parker Pillsbury should go to Bristol and visit the Estlins. Richard D. Webb has heard from Alfred Webb in Melbourne, Australia.</mods:note>
