A woman sits in a four-wheeled carriage, its hood folded down, drawn by a dark-colored horse
Description:
Joan Egleston Appleton (1912-2006) sits in a four-wheeled carriage, its hood folded down, drawn by a dark-colored horse. She wears a dark, large-brimmed hat secured under her chin with a ribbon and holds a small striped parasol. A small terrier peeks over the side of the carriage. The horse's bridle is adorned with a white ribbon and the tip of a driving whip, stored upright at the carriage edge, is also decorated. Behind them are a rail fence and tall trees.
