Approximate location of monument which marked the location where Anthony Eames was killed Feb 24, 1808 while taking a sleigh load of hand split shingles to Hartford, Ct. The sleigh load overturned on him while descending the slope just below Schultz Road. About 1900, the monument was blown up by juveniles, then it disappeared. Some time after 1940, it was returned by some summer people from Westfield and now reposes in the old town hall. The Walling, "Map of Berkshire County", 1858, notes the original spot called Monument Lot.
