Letter from Kate Keller to Michael Anagnos, July 24, 1888 (pp. 3 & 4 of 5)
Description:
Helen seems to be enjoying herself very much, but am afraid as Jimmie would say Cape Cod is about "to get away with" Miss Annie, she seems to be bored almost to death. I never before realized how much more of a reading people the North is than the South but every body had read about Helen and the minute they heard our name knew about her. I have been here 4 days and am convinced that not a soul in this house ever heard of her. The Captain spent yesterday with us and asked me to give you his kindest regards. The baby had entirely forgotten me. It was two days before she would let me kiss her hand. I hope you went to Mrs. Mrs. [sic] Howe at Newport. You will be so lonely in that great house alone. If you see Miss Moulton give her my love and tell her the bean pots came through with but a break. You can't imagine how I missed Helen while I was at home. The house seemed so empty. You never will know Mr. Anagnos the burden you have lifted off...
