During the All-Star break of 1934, Mack and his Athletics returned to his birthplace of North Brookfield, Mass. for an exhibition game with the local semi-pro team, the Armour Treads. Noted songwriter George M. Cohan, also a native of Brookfield, wrote a special song and there was a banquet in Mack's honor (Society for American Baseball Research, 2010-2011).
