Notes (historical):
The Normal School Building, erected in 1846, was the first educational facility in the U.S. built with the express purpose of providing teacher education and training. The building was enlarged with the addition of two wings in 1861 and then again in 1871 with the addition of a third floor. Normal Hall opened in 1869 as a student dormitory, housing male and female students in separate wings with the principal's residence in between. Normal Hall was expanded in 1874.
