From the artist: Reflecting on what makes home and what roots us to home, I began to think about household objects and cultural traditions: abayas (dresses), coffee cups, and foods I grew up with. These repurposed, everyday, sentimental and nostalgic, objects and traditions, represented ancestral portals - past, present, future - I could access anywhere I was. I had the young artists watch the original video piece titled, Rooted Revelation and think about what they wanted to add in, to reflect their own stories. One afternoon we ventured into the surrounding park and each person practiced taking clips of one another in similar ritual acts with their everyday or special objects. This video piece combines clips from the original Rooted Revelations with clips they took of one another. You can read more about the significance of the items in their statements accompanying their self portraits.
