Universalist Church - 1938. Richard Frothingham, Jr. served for thirty-six years on the standing committee of the Universalist Society. Two of their outstanding pastors were the Rev. Edwin H. Chapin in 1840-1845, later the renowned pastor of the Church of the Divine Paternity in New York; and the Rev. Thomas Starr King, in 1845-1848, later credited with having by his eloquence saved California for the Union, and author of "The White Hills, their Legends, Landscape, and Poetry."
