Monument Ave. 1942. This is one of the younger Charlestown streets, having been opened in 1871 across certain fields and gardens and a vineyard of Miss Evelina L. Harding's forebears, after the city fathers had decided not to build a straight approach to the monument directly from City Sq. A double row of Norway Maples was set out on the avenue in the fall of 1942.
