Charles Frederick Johnson was born on April 19, 1894 in Kulangsu, or the Gulangyu, Gulang Island, China. His parents were Frederick Richard and Fannie (Green) Johnson. Frederick was a missionary in China when Charles was born. Charles married Clare B. Stromsmoe on July 1, 1916, in Spokane, Washington. Charles died on March 10, 1936 in Los Angeles, California.<br><br>This collection contains 110 lantern slides of people and places, presumably in China, and of cartoons. It is unclear if Johnson is the photographer or not.<br><br>The Phillips Library holds additional items belonging to Johnson. The collection includes the lantern slides in this digital collection, postcards, and a few personal items.
