Manuscript inventory of the estate of Nicoló de Lazara, in the hand of the notary Manfredo Spazza, created in Padua, Italy, 16 September, 1423. The document details the contents of Nicoló's house, including a room by room listing of furniture, textiles, art, books, coins, and other objects; immovable properties, including farmland and residential and agricultural buildings; and lists of debtors and creditors to the estate. Includes an additional inscription on the inside of the back cover, dated 1529. Accompanied by three letters from Christopher Cheney to John Kenneth Hyde, 5 July - 6 August 1973, describing how Cheney acquired the manuscript and other related matters; also includes Cheney's partial transcript of the inventory.

Origin: Written in Padua, Italy by the notary Manfredo Spazza on 16 September, 1423. With his attestation and notary mark (signum tabellionis) in lower margin of most pages.

Provenance: With Count Antonio Medin prior to 1930. Acquired from Medin by the bookseller Francis Norman, likely circa 1925 (according to accompanying correspondence from C.R. Cheney). Purchased by Christopher Robert Cheney from Norman in October, 1933. Presented to John Kenneth Hyde by Cheney in 1973. Later acquired by Professor Cecil H. Clough (1930-2017). Sold by Dominic Winter Auctioneers (3 March 2020, lot 209) to Bernard Quaritch, Ltd.

Script: Written in brown ink in an Italian notarial hand.
Layout: Single column, number of lines varies, some pages ruled in brown ink.
Decoration: Decorative initials at the beginning of introductory texts.
Binding: Limp parchment wrappers, the front with tacketed turn-in on the fore-edge. Contemporary sewn repairs of two small natural flaws in the parchment on the front and back covers.
