Maria Weston Chapman's note is written on the verso of an admit card for the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society meeting of the Board of Managers on Jan. 14, 1865; the admittance card is signed "R.F. Wallcut, Rec. Sec." The unsigned note by Chapman reads: "This was a meeting of no consequence. I left my proxy, for a one-day Ann. Meet'g. The Hovey Com. majority are stumping the state to pack the meeting & redeem the Soc'y from Garrison's treason!"
