William Lloyd Garrison returns Harriet Martineau's Autobiography and Maria Weston Chapman's supplementary volume. He praises Harriet Martineau in extravagant terms. He thanks Maria W. Chapman "for the kind and generous manner in which reference is made" to himself and his anti-slavery labors. Martineau's theological views may "elicit more or less invective and traducement from a sectarian religious press..."
