Main Street - note Charles Lenox's Barber Shop to the right of Town Hall on the left - looking toward Watertown Square. pre-1865? Charles Lenox was the flag bearer for the 54th Regiment under Col. Shaw. At the beginning of the war he refused the offered bounty for enlistment, and afterward, he refused to accept a pension since he had not been injured. Father and son carried on a barber business on Main St. for decades before and after the Civil War. Town affairs were carried on for ten years without a Town Hall. In 1846 a wooden structure close to the corner of Main and Church Streets was built. Part of Dr. Spring?s property was bought for 25
