Richardson Tavern, Belmont and Mount Auburn Streets, built before 1700 in Cambridge by Dr. Palgrave Wellington and moved to Watertown at a later date. The Tavern stored in the basement powder kegs and a 16" cannon but by 1770 it became useless because it was not stirred every two months as "Sam the Master" was paid to do. Richardson also was in opposition to move the Meeting House to the intersection of Common and Mt. Auburn Streets as it would affect his business which was near the then current Meeting House. Became Bird Tavern in 1880. The Bird Tavern had the first lending library in Town which was done by subscription. Demolished in about 1892.
