A sweeping view of the land south of the Nashua River is shown here. This meadowland was called "the Vale of Beauty" by early Lancaster resident and writer Julia Fletcher Carney, who grew up in Woodbine Cottage (no longer standing), located just south of the Nathaniel Thayer residence, which is visible in the upper left.
