Additional information on item: Battle took place in Boston Harbor evening of June 1, 1813. (American) Chesapeake - frigate - 49 guns - commander, Capt. James Lawrence. (English) Shannon - frigate - 52 guns - commander, Commodore Broke. A short, bloody, and disastrous battle for the Americans. Loss - American - Capt. Lawrence and 47 men killed, 97 men wounded of which 14 afterwards died including Leuts. Ballard and Ludlow. Loss - English - Capt. Broke badly wounded - 26 killed - 57 wounded.
