Oliver Johnson writes that Mary Anne's condition weakens daily, and that her suffering has become so great that she "prays continually for death", a prayer which Johnson himself states that, in spite of himself, he can only wish to be answered "speedily, nay, instantly". Johnson informs Garrison that Mary Anne's doctor has declared that she should only survive for a few days longer at most, and cautions Garrison to not be taken be surprised should he be summoned by Johnson shortly. Johnson in closing requests that Garrison compose an obituary of Samuel Joseph May in advance of the Yearly Meeting of Progressive Friends.
