Letter from Frederick Douglass, Rochester [N.Y.], to Richard Davis Webb, Sept 12th 1850
Description:
Frederick Douglass writes to R. D. Webb that he regrets the circumstance of Deborah and Susannah, which necessitated giving up North Star subscription. He then talks about the “cool feeling” with which he thought of Webb, and says it was “that unfortunate letter of Mrs. Chapman’s” to Webb, in which she “commended [Douglass] to [Webb’s] watchful care,” that made him feel that Web distrusted him. He then talks about his life and mutual friends, including a visit from the Swedish actress Frederika Bremer and James Russell Lowell.
