Edward F. Gilday was the Dean Emeritus of the College of Music at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, a Professor Emeritus of Framingham State College and World War II naval veteran. He was born in Holyoke, MA. He received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from New York University and in subsequent years received the first Doctor of Musical Arts degree ever awarded from Boston University, as well as honorary Doctorates from Boston College and Emerson College. A lifelong music educator and choral conductor, he wrote frequently for professional publications, as well as composing and arranging numerous choral works.
