Between rounds
- Description:
-
Recuperating a boxer during the minute rest. The water bottle, fan, towels and advice. Madison Square Garden, New York -GB The moment captured, the attendants working over the exhausted contestants, is of no interest to the audience. Of the sixteen fight prints, only six have recognizable characters. The identities of the fighters and managers pictured here are unknown, but they all appear again in the second version. A drawing titled "The Savior of His Race" that appeared in "The Masses," May 1915, was a study of the weary fighter sprawled on the stool in the far corner of the ring. (Mason)

- Notes (object):
-
This lithograph, the larger of the two versions of "Between Rounds," is the earlier. The smaller lithograph, done in 1923 (M. 144), is a more accomplished work. Emma Bellows mistakenly reversed the designations of small and large in her first catalogue. She corrected the error in the second edition of the catalogue. (Mason)
