Item Information
- Title:
- Nocturne: Furnace
- Description:
-
Seen through a large square doorway in a dark wall on a canal, is a brightly lighted interior, roofed with beams, where a man stands at a forge. In the outer wall, at the left of the doorway, is an open window in which the head and shoulders of a man appear. Projecting below is the prow of a gondola. There are strong reflections in the canal. The butterfly, shaded, is on the wall, halfway up the plate, near the left edge.

Seventh state of seven.
Short slanting lines, from left to right, are added to the reflections below the centre of the doorway. Short diagonal lines on the house run into the water, between the gondola and the doorway. There is new work on the window-frame to the right of, and above, the boy's head, and fine slanting lines are in the centre, at top, and at upper right (Mrs. H. K. Knapp).
