In front, on the flat shore of the Thames, are a number of small figures, and near a float are men about to go out in a rowboat. Beyond, there are other rowboats, and cut in the stream there are barges under sail. On the opposite bank, under a cloudy sky, are a church and a row of buildings, some with tall chimneys. In the distance, at the left, an iron bridge spans the stream. In the right lower corner "Whistler, 1863."
