Additional information on back of item: Abstract studies by Arthur Thompson. Given- Rectangular area, cone, surface, painting materials. Problem- To develop and evolve a new illusion from the original illusion of the cone and rectangle. The artist derives his satisfaction in the re-creation of these forms in terms of space and color relation. Result- The artist has taken two separate motives, cone and rectangle, and has united them through lineal and tonal bonds so that they become interdependent. He has consequently created a decorative motive which has absorbed the two separate motives and is an organic whole. Note- An endeavor has been made by the artist to disassociate himself from realistic forms, and if they appeared in the process of painting he deliberately destroyed them.
