Letter from George Thompson, Liverpool, [England], to Robert Purvis, 1834 August 9
Description:
George Thompson writes to Robert Purvis in regards to arriving safely in Liverpool. He delivered Purvis' work and letter to Mr. Haynes who sends his kind support to him. He has seen the New York papers discussing the anti-abolitionist Farren riots of 1834. He writes, "The riots prove nothing but the dispositions of a few theives[sic] and ruffians to make the question of abolition a pretext for disorder that they may with impunity plunder of their property a few Citizens and at the same time gratify their malicious prejudice against the Colored population." He hopes the abolitionists will remain firm.
