George Thompson writes a report of six lectures delivered in Manchester in the year 1834 and reported in local newspapers. In this report, Thompson writes his views on foreign trade between India and Great Britain and how these affairs affect the United States and other countries. He writes, "A better state of things cannot be anticipated until the British people are made familiar with the circumstances, conditions & true value of India, until they regard India as an integral portion of the British dominion, & the people of India as sujects of her Majesty, with...claim upon the consideration, sympathy and exertion of those who have the power of influencing the arts of the rulers of this Empire."
