Letter from Elizabeth Pease Nichol, [Darlington, England], to Maria Weston Chapman, 1844 [January 27]
Description:
Elizabeth Pease Nichol writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to discussing the use of the first name in the salutation of a letter. She talks about her clothes and criticizes the Quaker doctrines pertaining to dress. She thinks that a certain treatment that was planned for Henry Grafton Chapman's tuberculosis would have been too severe. She discusses hydrotherapy, shipments of goods to the anti-slavery fair, and the controversy between J.C. Fuller and J.J. Gurney. She tried to get some of Gurney's letters fro Amelia Opie. She criticizes Daniel O'Connell's treatment of [William Lloyd] Garrison.
Holograph, signed.
Title devised by cataloger.
The envelope says "Per packet from Liverpool" but the catalog card says this letter was written in Darlington due to the stamp on the envelope so I decided to go with the stamp as well.
