Description:
Charlotte Austin writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to receiving Maria's bag-tops, which proved to be too expensive. She writes that they shall not purchase any silks, as her society's funds are all appropriated, and work for the (Boston anti-slavery fair) is nearly accomplished. She says they will forward their articles in a few weeks. In a postscript, Austin writes of Orestes Augustus Brownson, who is with them "astonishing the people with his 'Horrible Doctrines.'" He delivered a sermon which embodied all the principles of abolition, non-resistance, and all the altruisms of the days, as well as his attempt to identify the "so called Democratic party with the principles of true Democracy and Christianity." George Bradburn is a candidate for representative.
