Letter from Joseph J. Locke, Barre, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1851 July 3
Description:
Joseph J. Locke writes to Samuel May declaring that "Hardwick is the place for the meeting by [Stephen S.] Foster & myself & they desire us to hold it especially on Saturday & Sunday evenings." Locke asks May to send him "two or three Hand bills of our meetings filled as you desire." He then reports that the last meeting in Barre "did and is doing great good. I feare we under-estimate friend [Joseph] Treat's influence." Locke tells May that "Many here admire him [Treat] & they are among our best members."
