Letter from Eliza Nicholson, Eden Bank, [Carlisle, Scotland], to Maria Weston Chapman
Description:
Eliza Nicholson writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to thanking her for sending her and her sister each a "Liberty Bell." They apologize for sending few things to her. She is interested in the "North Star" edited by Frederick Douglass. She comments on the revolution in France; she writes, "Some noble acts of the Republic are already being passed, one glorious resolution they have come to has come to our knowledge only this morning, their noble intention of setting Free the slaves in their dominion." They have also abolished captial punishments for political offenses, which gives Nicholson great satisfaction.
