Wendell Phillips writes to Samuel May, apologizing for missing a meeting and telling May that while he was about to get on a train to travel to the meeting, his wife, Ann, "was so seriously ill I could not bring myself to leave her." He also tells May that he heard from Samuel Joseph May that "you had a good meeting, I am glad of it."
