<mods:abstract>This printed circular, sent to William Lloyd Garrison, addresses "the people of Great Britain and Ireland" and calls their attention to "the Slavemongers in this country, united under the banner of Southern Independence Associations, [who] have recently issued a Peace Manifesto addressed to the People of the United States." The circular states that prior to the American Civil War, "every Congress had a dominant party devoted to the interests of the Slave Power," and then lists the "progress of Liberty" made since the election of Abraham Lincoln. They also highlight the military success of the Union during the war and ask the readers, the "liberty-loving people of the United Kingdom, not be led away by crafty appeals, in the name of peace, in favour of a cause that excludes the possibility of all peaceful and righteous government, and that embodies all the crimes and cruelties that offend heaven and desolate earth." They insist that, "Not until Slavery is annihilated, throughout the United States, can come the longed-for Era of Peace - a true, holy, and lasting Peace, founded on Union, Freedom, Justice and Humanity."</mods:abstract>
