Beginning their letter with the words, "Pro Slavery and Pro Rum Identical", the author writes this letter to William Lloyd Garrison for the Liberator, describing developments in East Lexington. They state that while the "disgraceful course taken by the Unitarian society" in the town in delivering the eulogy of their former pastor, Dr. Charles Follen, "is well known but they have now gone deeper in Diabolism (if possible) then before." They then say that the society "decided that their Church shall not be opened for Temperance Lectures. Comment is unnecessary."
