Description:
Ichabod Codding writes to William Lloyd Garrison inviting him to attend the annual meeting of the Maine Anti-Slavery Society in January. He tells Garrison that he has "many warm friends in this state" and encourages him to come to the meeting "for many reasons." For example, Codding says that "some honest minded abolitionists have become prejudiced against you thro[ugh] the influence of slanderous reports, your presense [sic] at our meeting would have a tendency to remove these prejudices." He also says that there has been an "effort on the part of the same to make it appear that our abolitionism was a different thing in Maine from that in Massachusetts." In the postscript, he asks Garrison to respond soon if he will be able to attend the meeting and says that the date "will be announced in the next Advocate."
