Letter from Richard Ball to William Lloyd Garrison, 1833 [June] 19
Description:
Richard Ball sends this "Interview with Elliot[t] Cresson at Dr. [Thomas] Hodgkin's" to William Lloyd Garrison along with another letter (MS A.1.2 v.3, p.47). Ball describes how he met Cresson at Dr. Thomas Hodgkin's house and they all discussed whether Cresson "would meet Will[ia]m Lloyd Garrison in Public Discussion." He says that both Hodgkin and Cresson wished instead for a "private discussion" but while Ball "fully admitted the eligibility of a Private conference as a preparatory measure for a Public one but never should I as a substitute for it." He tells Garrison that they agreed Cresson would be given "Garrisons Charges against him - in writing - and that to those Elliot[t] Cresson should reply in writing."
