Letter from George Thompson, [London, England], to Maria Weston Chapman, [1851 July 23]
Description:
George Thompson writes to Maria Weston Chapman sending her his sympathies in her affliction "in conveyance of the tidings you have received from the other side of the Atlantic." He had determined not to enter the meeting at Exeter Hall. He will commence a series of meetings amongst his constituencies. He admits, "I should not have had if I had commenced last evening a war of extermination against the pretenders and deceivers of B[road] St. I must yet 'bide my time.' " He wishes to address her and her party at his house. The last Liberators will give her a "peep" into the farewell service.
