<mods:abstract>Robert Rutherford writes to William Lloyd Garrison "on a subject that has lately absorbed all my feelings, I mean the slavery of our country." He mentions the efforts of the Chilicothe Presbytery to educate free African-Americans in the area and argues that "were the free blacks educated in the United States, instead of driven from our land they would, in my opinion, form the most powerful engine ever yet put in motion against slavery." Rutherford asks to receive the Liberator and pay Garrison "the price as soon as I can get it," also offering to distribute free copies if Garrison would send them to him. He then discusses an article from the newspaper, Presbyterian, that Rutherford says "misrepresented" a letter he wrote to them. He copies this letter to the Presbyterian and asks Garrison to publish an explanation of his letter in the Liberator.</mods:abstract>
