<mods:abstract>William Goodell writes to William Lloyd Garrison discussing a letter he received from his brother-in-law, Roswell C. Smith, suggesting that Lafayette Foster be hired to help Prudence Crandall establish her school. Goodell says Foster is "a young man of uncommon promise, and a staunch advocate of Temperance," and he belives Foster will "be glad to do all in his power, if [he never] received a cent in compensation." Goodell adds, "Mr. Smith says that Anti Slavery men are springing up rapidly in that region."</mods:abstract>
