<mods:abstract>In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Arnold Buffum mentions his plans to travel to New York and discusses meetings held in Canterbury, Connecticut, "to devise ways and means to suppress P[rudence] Crandalls school and I am informed that the excitement is so great that it would not be safe for me to appear there." He calls this opposition "one of the legitmate flowers of Colonization" and says he would rather be excommunicated from his church than stop criticizing the colonization movement. He also asks Garrison to send him "the name and residence of the friend who wrote on the subject of a donation for our school" and tells him that if Garrison will not go to England next month, then he would instead. After his autograph, Buffum adds, "Write me all the news."</mods:abstract>
