Letter from Arthur Tappan, New York, [New York], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1831 Sept[ember] 12
Description:
In this typed copy of a letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Arthur Tappan sends Garrison $100 "to be applied to the distribution of your paper to the leading men in our country." He also encourages Garrison to use the Liberator "to show the IMPOSSIBILITY of the [American] Colonization Society's ever effecting the entire removal of our colored slave population". In the postscript, Tappan provides a list of names to receive the Liberator and advises Garrison to write "gratuitous" at the top of these papers he sends out.
